North Star Country: Tracking the Freedom Trail in New York’s Old “Burned-over District”
An illustrated presentation on significant people, places, and events that dramaticize the operations of the Underground Railroad in Upstate New York in the context of the religious revivals and social reform movements that transformed the region into a hotbed of abolitionist activity. Emphasis on important figures such as Jermain Loguen, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Gerrit Smith and connections to other causes such as women’s rights.
