Folklore is history, probably one of the most underrated forms of history at that. And yet, it is wonderfully instructive in its view of the past as knowledge handed down from generation to generation.

  • Gain a familiarity with folktales and the influence of oral tradition in the lives of students
  • Explore the rich heritage of folklore and folktales in New York State, especially as expressed in local communities
  • Develop skills of interviewing family members, friends, and neighbors to learn about the beliefs and traditions of other people
